If you haven’t noticed…

March 18th, 2005

Music: Bob Marley & The Wailers – Turn Your Lights Down Low

I’m on a posting hiatus. I’ve been living in Fort Lauderdal for nearly a month now, still getting settled, and already about to have company for over a week. Then Jeremy’s and Coral’s wedding in about a week… so the chaos continues.

Night and Day

February 5th, 2005

Music: U2 – Night and Day (Live from MusiCares 2003)

gMail. I started forwarding all of my email to my gmail account just to make it easier to access mail while I’m in the process of moving. Well, I get such an intense volume of mail that it seems it triggered a huge increase in the number of gmail invites I have (49 left as of now)… so if anyone out there needs/wants one, please leave a comment w/your email address and I’ll see what I can do for you. In other matters, I spent a good portion of today recording a much sought after U2 performance from MusiCares 2003. The three tracks Bono performed were That’s Life, Night and Day, and The Hands That Built America, all of which are incredible to hear that man croon out live. Sinatra’s That’s Life by Bono is very similar in sound to Two Shots of Happy, One Shot of Sad, which happens to be one of my favorite U2 songs. In other news, I’ve had to report some asshole for what I believe to be trying to defraud people on iOffer.com and PayPal.. in general, I think this problem is getting much worse. People suck. Prove me otherwise.

Minisize Me

February 3rd, 2005

Music: Radiohead – Talk Show Host

I’ve wanted a small lil ‘mini’ digital camera for awhile now, something I could put in my pocket and have with me w/o the hassle of a ‘normal’ size camera. A few nights ago when I was out for dinner for Aaron’s birthday Jaclyn had gotten a new camera. She was snapping away, the photos on the 2 inch LCD looked great, and it looked very easy to use. I immediately began questioning her on the price, information, make, model, etc – you’d almost have thought I was seeking out a murder suspect the way I was interrogating her. The Canon Digital Elph SD200 was in my sites now, and after pricing it out later that night as well as reading all the reviews and documentation I could find, as well as looking at sample photos, I decided this was going to be an impulse buy. Ship it to me 2nd day I told Amazon, and today it appeared on my doorstep. Already charged it up, changed some of the settings to my liking, and read a good portion of the manual… not to mention I’ve taken some test shots which I’ve been please with. I’ll be toting this lil Elph around with me from now on. Should be fun as Anne will be here soon, then off to Vegas, and then of course… _the move_.

Fly Me to the Moon

January 31st, 2005

Music: Count Basie/Frank Sinatra – Fly Me to the Moon

I swear I could be moving to the moon. The sad part is, if it was an emergency to move, I’d be completely SOL. When it comes to sorting and packing my motivation is really come and go. Today I got some pricing on shipping my car, which seemed fairly reasonable, copied a bundle of old CD-Roms and floppy disks (you read that right!) to a harddrive and trashed all the disks (actually, they are still ‘waiting’ to go in the garbage), sorted some paperwork, ALMOST had U2 GA tickets for Boston3 but it didn’t quite work out (did I mention I hate TicketBastard, bought a 100 pack of DVD-Rs from Amazon via my store at Interference.com for $30 after rebate w/free shipping, and… drumroll please… took a shower and got dressed for the day at 5pm…. just in time to go to dinner for Aaron’s birthday at T.G.I. Friday’s at The BLOCK at ORANGE. Oh, I also helped one of Allan’s friends with his pokey computer… ‘phone support’ was the prefered method as I was to lazy to actually want to go fix a Windows98 POS even for a couple hours of pay. Hopefully dinner will be good, and the company too.

Out With the Old

January 30th, 2005

Music: Various Artists – Beach Sequence

Today was a proud day… I had a brilliant idea, a great plan, and it all came together by 3:15pm. In my efforts to pack for the move I’m needing/having to get rid of a lot of ‘junk’ that I’ve been saving, namely 6 old computers (the oldest dating back to 1994!), 2 color printers, 1 dotmatrix printer, and my first HP flatbed SCSI scanner. Took all the harddrives out, then went to the local edition of Craig’s List, posted an ad:

FREE: I’ve got 5 old computers and 5 old monitors that I need to get rid of. All are in working condition, although I’ve removed the hard drives.

Each computer ranges from a 486 to Pentium 2’s (maybe a P3, not sure). Some of the computers have additional NICs, Tuner cards, cd writers, etc. Great for someone learning about computers, or someone wanting to use them as routers, etc. If you want only one, you’re out of luck – the whole lot comes as a package deal – Its free. I’ve also got a flatbed scsi HP scanner, a couple of color inkjets, and a okidata microline printer that I’ll toss in too if you want them.
Please contact me immediately if you’re interested. I’m moving and HAVE to part with these quickly!

30 minutes later I got the first of several emails from people responding to the ad. 10 minutes later I had arranged who was the lucky ‘buyer’ and a time for the pick-up. Praise that site, I’ve neglected it since I moved back from San Francisco.

Changes In Lattitudes: Fort Lauderdale

January 29th, 2005

Living Room

Music: Jimmy Buffett – Changes In Lattitudes

Well, I haven’t posted in over a month and I really feel terribly guilty about that – guilt only because I really wanted to keep up with this. Anwyay, in the past month and a half I spent awhile in Canada for the holidays with Anne and her family, followed by a the bachelor party I planned for Jeremy, and then back to Fort Lauderdale again to go furniture shopping for my new place (photo above: living room). Only about three weeks left until I move, I’ve been busy packing, organizing, and trying to figure out every detail of transplanting my life to South Florida. It’s seriously a lot of work… although when Jeremy and Coral did it they just ditched everything and moved in about 2 weeks. I’m not so willing to dump everything I own. It’s nice to know that I’ve got friends in a new place, but I really hope to meet some new folks as well. Time to go pack some more, I’ve already dwindled half the day away.

Fortune Cookie

December 10th, 2004

Music: Franz Ferdinand – 40′

Usually fortune cookies tell me nothing more than lottery numbers that are worthless, not to mention a generic ‘fortune’ that is anything but unique. Two days ago I was having lunch with Shayna and Adam at Pei Wei, cracked open my cookie, and got what I think is the most amazin fortune yet… Look around: happiness is trying to catch you. It’s going to be framed. So incredibly appropriate at this point in my life, and with what’s transpired in the last few weeks alone. My life is surreal, and for once the damn cookie is dead on. Now if I can only figure out what to do with the numbers on it the fortune: 09 12 36 39 41, 15.

South Beach

December 4th, 2004

I’ve been to Miami before, most recently this past Septemeber… however this was my first trip into the South Beach area. Very cool. Very European. Very busy. Little shops and places to dine stretched down Lincoln Ave which has been restricted to pedestrian traffic only. Tables clustered all along the center, littered with people of all kinds, drinking, eating, and speaking in every language known to man and then a few. I suppose I could compare it most to 3rd St Promenade in Santa Monica, except this was much busier and more unique. I’ll be back.

December 3rd, 2004

Mmm. Perhaps not Miami, but close – Ft Lauderdale. I’ve been here since Wednesday evening, on business and visiting friends. At this point it looks like I may indeed have a serious job offer/opportunity to create something I’ve been dreaming of for years, and a dream left unfullfilled by the defunct Musicfans. Moving to south Florida isn’t exactly close to home, is quite different, but I suppose would be a new adventure in life… not to mention, a great opportunity (as I mentioned). How life so quickly changes, twists, and turns is truly not only interesting… but odd. Someone recently gave me some amazingly wise advice, ‘Jump in the river, and see where it takes you… you never know what shore you’ll land on, or what opportunities it may bring’. So many things to think about, to figure out, but for now I’m just riding the river and will deal with everything as it comes. Challenge, change, and risk are things I’ve been looking for lately. I think they may have found me.

November 30th, 2004

Why do people feel the need to openly and freely discuss other people’s business, specifically when asked not to? Is it human nature? or is it really just a bad habbit? I’m very aware of the fact that if you want something kept private/secret you should just keep it to yourself. It just sucks that you often can’t even tell the people closest to you without billboards being put up all over town. The worst part is, this just doesn’t apply to one close person, but several. Human beings have big mouths, and instead of blabbering about themselves they come up with reasons to blab about other people. I’ll just accept it. Trust is a one way street in most cases. Depressing.

Miracle Drug

November 28th, 2004

Music: Enya – Tempus Vernum

I have a new Dell server I’ve been slowly working on. Of course, I picked it up from Dell while they had an error on their site for an incredibly low price, and while it came with the bare bones… it’s anything but that now. As of tonight: Dell PowerEdge 400SC,2.8GHZ/512K Cache, P4, 800FSB, 1.12GB RAM, 660GB, CD-ROM, DVD DualLayer Writer, Windows Media Center. While I still need to upgrade the video card and add-in a tuner/PVR card, I’ve appropriately named the machine ‘Miracle Drug’. All my machines, networked attached devices, etc are all named after something relating to U2. Dorky, I know, but it works.

Nothin’ like a fish burrito

November 27th, 2004

Music: U2 – Levitate (From All That You Can’t Leave Behind Sessions)

Mmmm. Just had dinner at Taco Surf with Jer and Coral, and about 8-10 others… followed by everyone’s favorite Starbucks (note the sarcasm). Out of those invited to Zubkoff’s Eleven, a good deal were there tonight: Jeremy, Rob, Paul, Judd, Ben, Josh, and myself. Got addresses for everyone, ‘invites’ will be going out this week before I’m of to Florida. Let the rush begin!

Beautiful Ghost

November 26th, 2004

Music: U2 – Beautiful Ghost / Introduction to Songs of Experience (From The Joshua Tree Sessions)

I really love this track. I keep meaning to actually listen to it before the Joshua Tree but just haven’t gotten around to actually doing it. So tough, I know. Why does U2 keep so many great tracks hidden away?

It’s made from soybeans?

November 26th, 2004

Now that I’m attempting to get back into the blogging routine, I thought it’d be nice to link up to some friend’s sites as well. Carrie’s blog ‘the unstoppable girlie~dervish‘ is great… the ‘tofu‘ bit had me entertained. I’ve observed, or been a part of, way toooo many conversations of a similar nature.

Shopped out

November 26th, 2004

So I went out shopping again. Went to three more stores, bought from three more stores. It’s crazy out there. People have some major attitudes, willing to get in fights over who was in line first. All I could do was just laugh at these people arguing between each other… quietly and to myself of course. I wouldn’t want to piss anyone off, you know? I’ve still have four more people to buy for, thank goodness only one gift each though.

Rebates from hell

November 26th, 2004

So I was at BestBuy at 4:45am. Doors opened somewhere between 5:45-6:00am… what a mad house. I ended up getting some of the limited sale items I was after (won’t mention this since some are gifts for people). The one thing I realized during the process is while they have these great prices, they are only great because of the rebates for the most part. Now _most_ rebates require you to have the original UPC to send in *DING DING DING*. If you’re giving something as a gift, how the hell do they expect you to send in the rebate? They don’t (unless the person you’re giving it to doesn’t want to return or exchange it and wants a hole in their box), I think they plan on people thinking they’re getting such an amazing bargain, but never turning the rebates in…. of course, isn’t that the idea behind rebates anyway? Three hours of sleep. Need to catch up. More shopping later… I dunno.

When Darth Vader phones

November 25th, 2004

In a little more than five hours Darth Vader will be calling me to wake my arse up. Yes folks, I’m going to join the cattle drive and be at BestBuy when the store opens at 5:30am to see what kind of great deals I can get… I’ll figure out if their practical gifts or not after I’ve got them secured from the rest of the frenzy. They do have some great deals, although limited, on harddrives, memory, miniDV cams, and of course DVD players.

Are you in or out?

November 25th, 2004

Zubkoff's Eleven Invitation

‘Invitations’ are ready to go. Now just need to get everyone’s postal address. Jer doesn’t have a clue what’s coming. Need to find Mardi Gras beads. 555 number to protect the innocent ;)

Gobble Gobble

November 25th, 2004

Well, as usual I can’t seem a) pull myself away from the computer and b) leave anything as-is until I’m atleast moderately happy with it. I’ve updated the look, nothing fancy, but better than it was.

Today being Thanksgiving I’ve mentally prepared myself for turkey and all the fixins’, have you? Will be spending the evening with family, although sort of late for TG – 6pm. I suppose the later the better, less time to get stuffed.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving… don’t let the turkey eat you!

Third time a charm?

November 25th, 2004

Well, I’m starting over with the whole blog thing… again. First I had a blog where I just wrote, and then I had a blog where I mostly just posted photos (a photoblog), and now I’m at the point where I couldn’t really give a shit about the structure of my blog. So there you have it. I’ll be posting whatever the hell I feel like, whenever the hell I feel like, however the hell I feel like it. ;) Now all that said and done, while I love WordPress, I really can’t stand the default css style so for now I’ve just used a template and will modify it, and make it all pretty and unique to my linking when I have the time. I’ve gotta do something less fun… vaccuum.
